The Miracle Essential Oil

Since my last post I’ve been pulling my hair out trying to figure how to get rid of my lil’ Lainey’s diaper rash.  It has been over a month and I have been to the doctor numerous times and tried numerous medicated creams.  Some worked a bit, and others didn’t do a thing.  After much research/ visits to the doctor, I’ve come to the conclusion that it is a yeast rash due to her teething.  She has 4 teeth that just won’t come through!!

So I thought I would share my personal experience with my LO and her yeast diaper rash.  If I would have known what I know now about what I’ve researched I could have helped her through a lot of discomfort.  What I found out online from other Mom’s was that with a yeast type rash applying zinc type ointment, baby powder (cornstarch or talc), disposable diapers, disposable wipes can all make the rash worse (which it did)  Here I thought of all things zinc would make it better!.  So finally I just used the medicated ointment I got from the doctor and it helped soothe the rash to where it was almost gone.  The instructions say to use it up to a week, but it was so bad that I had to use it more.  The poor girl was scratching at her diaper all the time because it hurt.

What made it more uneasy for me was the cream that I made that worked on other regular diaper rashes wasn’t cutting it for this type of rash.  I felt so bad that I couldn’t help my baby girl.  So I went back online and did more research on different oils and essential oils that might help.

I had never heard about the benefits of myrrh essential oil.  We know that it was one of the three gifts given to Jesus when he was born, but it was also used in ancient Greece on soldiers’ wounds.  Some of it’s properties include: antifungal, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiseptic, antiviral and more.  If your interested in more info about myrrh essential oil take a look at what it has to offer.

I purchased some last week and it came in the mail the other day so I did up a new recipe for Lainey.  Because the cream just wasn’t doing it, I decided to make a balm instead.  They usually apply better and stay on the skin nicer because of the beeswax.  However, because beeswax doesn’t wash off so easily it can be tough on cloth diapers if the consistency is right.  After two batches I came up with the perfect consistency!  I put it on her before bed and hoped for improvement.  Sure enough all the things that I found out about this awesome oil was true.  In addition to the myrrh essential oil, I added tea tree and lavender essential oils as in my previous cream.  I’m pretty excited though about this new diaper balm.  I can’t wait to share it with others!

On a side note, I’ve started working on a facebook page, and soon I hope to have a separate WordPress page for Nu.Babee.  I just have to get it organized and add some nice photos of my product and logos.

Take care!

My little Lainey has gone through the worst 2 weeks.  It all started with a cold which turned into a fever and then came an awful rash because of the fever.  The poor girl was in so much pain and discomfort nothing was helping.  It got to the point where her rash was so bad that I took her to the doctor because it just wasn’t going away.  The doctor advised me to use the cream I had been prescribed for her eczema, which is a topical corticosteroid cream that cost me a fortune for the tiniest little tube!  So I used that on her for about 4 days and it was slowly starting to improve.  But I was starting to worry because her fever was back and the rash wasn’t getting better like you would think after 4 days of using that type of cream.  So I was ready to go to the doctor the next morning.  I thought since I was going to the doctor anyways it wouldn’t hurt to try my soothing balm I made for her eczema, on the rash.  So I lathered it on and put her to bed.

The next morning it was like I put some miracle cream on her.  It improved more over night than it had in 4 days using the prescription cream, that isn’t really good for her skin anyways.  I wish I would have taken a picture of what it was before and after.  I’ll post a picture of it maybe tomorrow to give an idea how much it healed.  And her bad eczema patch now is like 90% healed after the huge chunk of skin she scratched away at 2 weeks ago.  See the before and after pics below:

before to after_eczema

I’m so excited I finally got the right consistency and the right percentage of each ingredient.  I want to put the balm in a twist up tube so it’s easy to apply to the skin.  So I found the packaging I like and just had to get it to set right so it would glide on the skin nicely.

The ingredients I use in my Soothing Balm are:
Beeswax –  “Beeswax contains natural moisturizers…. In some cases, beeswax may be applied to minor burns or other skin damage in order to help the skin heal.” (from    Raw Honey –  “… has antibacterial properties that speed the healing of infections and wounds… It also contains antioxidants, which neutralize free radicals to promote healthy skin. Honey also improves skin hydration, an important factor in the skin’s ability to maintain softness, suppleness and elasticity.” (from HowStuffWorks)   Olive Oil – “Olive oil contains four major antioxidants which allow it to work as a cleanser, moisturizer, and protector of skin.  Among these antioxidants are Vitamin A and Vitamin E.  Vitamin E partly accounts for the anti-aging benefits of this substance because it helps restore skin elasticity.” (from GlobalHealingCenter.comCalendula Oil  – “Calendula oil offers anti-inflammatory, anti-septic, and possible wound healing qualities. It can soothe inflamed and irritated skin, and helps regenerate new skin cells.” (from SwiftCraftyMonkey Blog).  Vitamin E -is an antioxidant, it helps protect and repair damaged skin.

The beginning…

So last week I finally got my package of raw ingredients in the mail! I was so excited because I had been waiting for what seemed like forever for it to come, only because I “had” to order something that was on back order. I have to say the staff at Voyageur Soap and Candle Co. – in Surrey, BC, are amazing. They have amazing customer service, and they have so much to choose from, that I feel like I never have enough. I’m always wanting to create new recipes!

So as soon as I opened my package I had to make something! So the first thing on my list was a new diaper cream recipe. I had made one a couple months ago but it just wasn’t what I wanted. Because I use cloth diapers on my LO, I wanted to make a cream that was safe on cloth diapers and also worked great on diaper rashes. So I did some research on oils and other natural ingredients and came up with a recipe I thought could work. I’ve been using it on Lainey for a good 4 or 5 days, and had not used any diaper liners. I never use diaper cream without using a liner! It’s a major no-no with cloth diapers (unless your using a cloth diaper friendly cream). But the only way I would find out if my recipe worked on cloth diapers was to tough it out. And if it didn’t work then I’d be doing a lot of scrubbing to get it out. So I crossed my fingers and hoped it would come out clean. And……..

So after washing them I inspected each and every diaper. Every single one came out clean, with not one stain! I have to say I was pretty excited. So excited that I had to write about it 🙂

Now that I have two recipes that I have created, that work amazing on my little girl’s skin. I feel confident to pursue my new venture. I hope this is the beginning of something great! After some research and brainstorming I think I have come up with my product name.

I wanted to incorporate the word ‘bee’ in the name as every product uses either beeswax or honey, or both. I believe in using only the best ingredients in my products. All my products are free off: parabens, harsh chemicals, dyes, petroleum, talc or phthalates. Some of my favourite ingredients I use are: beeswax, honey, coconut oil, calendula oil, shea butter, olive oil and vitamin E.

So, I hope to get everything going in the next couple months, and give out samples to friends and family. In addition to my soothing balm, I’m also working on a lotion, baby oil, baby powder, and for the mommies a belly butter and lip balm. I’ve already made a ‘test’ lip balm that has honey, and it sure makes my lips super smooth!

I have a lot of work ahead of me! But I’m super excited. Come back to see how my next recipes go.

Take care!!

Yummy Yummy Healing Honey

Did you have any idea how great honey is for it’s healing properties?

After doing some research, I found out how great honey and beeswax is for healing your skin.  Honey has antiseptic and antibacterial properties that can be helpful when used on your skin.  I found an article on the web at Medical News Today about the health benefits of honey.  It said, “In pre-Ancient Egyptian times, honey was used topically to treat wounds”.   Take a look at this link here for more useful facts.    800-Skep-Beehive-Beeswax-Candle-1

I first came to discover the great things that honey and beeswax can do when I was trying to help my daughter with her eczema breakouts.  I went to the doctor because her eczema breakout got so bad that she couldn’t stop scratching which in turn started bleeding.  I really didn’t want to resort to the steroid cream they prescribe, but I was at the point where I had to for my poor little girl.  After spending about $100 on the prescription I thought there has to be something else to help her.  I had tried everything I could find on the shelf, as well as what others suggested, but nothing was helping.  I started doing some research and found out that beeswax and honey had healing properties that had helped with eczema relief.  So I made my own little “formula” 🙂 and put it on her to see how it works.  She woke up the next morning and I swear it worked just as good as that $100 prescription stuff.  And it was all natural!  I was so excited that I couldn’t stop talking about how great this beeswax and honey was for her eczema.  I’m just amazed how it has healed her.  Right now during the winter months her skin is so dry that it’s not helping her skin, but we can take her shirt off now with out her instantly scratching her sores.

From this little discovery I thought, if I can help my lil one, imagine who else I can possibly help.  So right now I’m in the process of putting together something that I would love to be able to sell on Etsy.  And from there I hope I can make even more healing products.  I’m so excited to do this, so I hope it won’t take too long to get it going!
If anyone has started their own products and have any suggestions or helpful tips, I would love to hear what you’ve done.

So, until then….

Restoration Hardware Holiday Catalog is Here!

The Restoration Hardware Baby & Child Holiday catalog is here!

rh baby catalog

I just looked through it today, and I’m already thinking of some things I may get for my LO.  I don’t know if there are any other crazy Restoration Hardware fans out there, but I get super excited when a new catalog comes out.  My favourite is all the baby things.  If I could have a shopping spree at their store, I think Lainey’s bedroom would be almost entirely Restoration Hardware.  Probably the rest of the house too 😉

I thought I would share a few things I found in their catalog that caught my eye.  Take a look for yourself at their holiday items on their website:

I had to share this photo as well.  Isn’t this LO so cute!  I almost have to buy Lainey these booties and hat because of this picture.  What do you think?

The Best 12 Months!

0741_Baby%20Foot%20Prints  A moment in my arms forever in my heart

One year ago our sweet little girl was born.  I still remember that moment like it was yesterday.  Everyone says they grow up so fast.  It is so true!  I can’t believe how fast this year went.  I can’t believe she’s going to be a toddler!

I fell in love with that sweet little girl, the moment I saw her on our 10 week ultrasound visit.  She has been a true joy since the moment we brought her home.  I couldn’t ask for a more peaceful baby.  Even though I was up feeding her every 2 hours the first few weeks.  What can I say she’s always been one hungry girl 🙂  Now that she’s eating solids, she still eats a ton for such a small little girl.

We are so blessed to have such a wonderful little girl.  We are so lucky to have a LO that LOVES to sleep.  From the moment we taught her to fall asleep on her own, she almost begs to go for a nap or to bed.  I think she gets that from her Mom 😉  That and her love for soft blankets.

Her favourite things right now are: her blankets, kitties, books, clocks, num nums (food),  Bubble Guppies, baths and Mommy and Daddy’s phone.  I know your thinking, clocks? She is obsessed with clocks!  This is actually her third real word.  It started a couple weeks ago as soon as she see’s a clock she won’t stop pointing and babbling about the clock.  When we went to meet cousin Kinsey in the hospital she was in her glory with all the clocks.  When you walk down the halls there is one like every 20 ft maybe, and she couldn’t get over how many clocks there were.

Right now I just love sitting back and just watching her play and discover things on her own (when she lets me).  It is so fascinating to see the world through your child’s eyes.  As the days are nearing that I won’t get to spend every hour of every day with her I’m cherishing all these little moments with her.  In the beginning we would take hundreds of photos as well as videos of her.  Now I just like to sit back and take in these moments I spend with her.  I saw this quote on another Mom’s blog awhile back, and then stumbled upon it the other day on Pinterest:

Sometimes it can be so hard to just leave things, for me this is so true.  Having our house up on the market makes it tough sometimes as I feel like I’m always having to make sure the house is tidy and in order.  With a LO you all know this is tough because they constantly have everything all over the house.  I find she changes so much right now.  And teaching her how to walk is so much fun, along with other skills she is learning.  I just can’t believe this it’s been a year.  Where does the time go?

To our sweet Lainey:  You bring your father and I so much joy.  We couldn’t imagine our lives without you.  You fill our days with so much joy, each and every smile and kiss we get.  We pray that we can be the best parents we can be for you.  Though you may not like us at times and will most likely have tantrums and test the limits, we will love you unconditionally.  You will always be our baby girl and for that we are truly blessed.  We love you.
