The beginning…

So last week I finally got my package of raw ingredients in the mail! I was so excited because I had been waiting for what seemed like forever for it to come, only because I “had” to order something that was on back order. I have to say the staff at Voyageur Soap and Candle Co. – in Surrey, BC, are amazing. They have amazing customer service, and they have so much to choose from, that I feel like I never have enough. I’m always wanting to create new recipes!

So as soon as I opened my package I had to make something! So the first thing on my list was a new diaper cream recipe. I had made one a couple months ago but it just wasn’t what I wanted. Because I use cloth diapers on my LO, I wanted to make a cream that was safe on cloth diapers and also worked great on diaper rashes. So I did some research on oils and other natural ingredients and came up with a recipe I thought could work. I’ve been using it on Lainey for a good 4 or 5 days, and had not used any diaper liners. I never use diaper cream without using a liner! It’s a major no-no with cloth diapers (unless your using a cloth diaper friendly cream). But the only way I would find out if my recipe worked on cloth diapers was to tough it out. And if it didn’t work then I’d be doing a lot of scrubbing to get it out. So I crossed my fingers and hoped it would come out clean. And……..

So after washing them I inspected each and every diaper. Every single one came out clean, with not one stain! I have to say I was pretty excited. So excited that I had to write about it 🙂

Now that I have two recipes that I have created, that work amazing on my little girl’s skin. I feel confident to pursue my new venture. I hope this is the beginning of something great! After some research and brainstorming I think I have come up with my product name.

nu.babee

I wanted to incorporate the word ‘bee’ in the name as every product uses either beeswax or honey, or both. I believe in using only the best ingredients in my products. All my products are free off: parabens, harsh chemicals, dyes, petroleum, talc or phthalates. Some of my favourite ingredients I use are: beeswax, honey, coconut oil, calendula oil, shea butter, olive oil and vitamin E.

So, I hope to get everything going in the next couple months, and give out samples to friends and family. In addition to my soothing balm, I’m also working on a lotion, baby oil, baby powder, and for the mommies a belly butter and lip balm. I’ve already made a ‘test’ lip balm that has honey, and it sure makes my lips super smooth!

I have a lot of work ahead of me! But I’m super excited. Come back to see how my next recipes go.

Take care!!

DIY Foaming Handwash or Bodywash

Awhile ago I saw a post on Pinterest on how to make your own Foaming Handwash/Bodywash.  It’s super easy and it gets you the most for your buck.  For me I love to use the Burts Bees – Baby Bee Shampoo & Wash for my LO at bath time.  It’s usually about $10.  I like the better stuff for Lainey because she has eczema.  The only thing is you can go through that stuff so fast because the bottle isn’t that big.  So when I found this on Pinterest I was excited to use her Burt’s Bees wash this way.

I got the idea from this blog here.  You have to make sure you use a foaming soap dispenser or it won’t work.  Here is one I found from Bath and Body Works
Image

 Here is what you need:
– Foaming soap dispenser
– Your favorite hand soap or body wash
–  Warm to Hot Water

Now in the other post I believe they use 1TBSP of soap and the rest water.  I started using a bit more because I like it more soapy as I thought the ratio had too much water than soap.  Then fill the container with Warm to Hot Water.  Don’t fill it up too fast or too full as you’ll get it everywhere!  You’ll want enough room at the top so it doesn’t overflow.  Then just pump away.  Now if your using a baby wash to refill, and the container had other hand soap or something else you wouldn’t want to wash your baby with, make sure you clean out the pump.  Then pump a bunch of times so you get the old stuff out.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.  Now my $10 for her wash goes so far! and I don’t mind getting the more expensive stuff.

Yummy Yummy Healing Honey

_______________________________________________________________________________________________

Did you have any idea how great honey is for it’s healing properties?

After doing some research, I found out how great honey and beeswax is for healing your skin.  Honey has antiseptic and antibacterial properties that can be helpful when used on your skin.  I found an article on the web at Medical News Today about the health benefits of honey.  It said, “In pre-Ancient Egyptian times, honey was used topically to treat wounds”.   Take a look at this link here for more useful facts.    800-Skep-Beehive-Beeswax-Candle-1

I first came to discover the great things that honey and beeswax can do when I was trying to help my daughter with her eczema breakouts.  I went to the doctor because her eczema breakout got so bad that she couldn’t stop scratching which in turn started bleeding.  I really didn’t want to resort to the steroid cream they prescribe, but I was at the point where I had to for my poor little girl.  After spending about $100 on the prescription I thought there has to be something else to help her.  I had tried everything I could find on the shelf, as well as what others suggested, but nothing was helping.  I started doing some research and found out that beeswax and honey had healing properties that had helped with eczema relief.  So I made my own little “formula” 🙂 and put it on her to see how it works.  She woke up the next morning and I swear it worked just as good as that $100 prescription stuff.  And it was all natural!  I was so excited that I couldn’t stop talking about how great this beeswax and honey was for her eczema.  I’m just amazed how it has healed her.  Right now during the winter months her skin is so dry that it’s not helping her skin, but we can take her shirt off now with out her instantly scratching her sores.

From this little discovery I thought, if I can help my lil one, imagine who else I can possibly help.  So right now I’m in the process of putting together something that I would love to be able to sell on Etsy.  And from there I hope I can make even more healing products.  I’m so excited to do this, so I hope it won’t take too long to get it going!
If anyone has started their own products and have any suggestions or helpful tips, I would love to hear what you’ve done.

So, until then….

My Lil’ Red Riding Hood

I totally forgot to make a post about my cute Lil’ Red Riding Hood.  I guess better late then never?

I decide to make Lainey her Halloween costume and immediately came up with the idea of Red Riding Hood.

I thought it would be a great idea since it’s usually pretty cold out by then and I could have her wear tights and her coat under her cape and still look cute!  I wasn’t sure the type of dress to make her so I did some research on Pinterest and found the cutest pattern here.  I was excited that I could get the pattern directly from Etsy and just print at home.  Take a look at her other patterns, the dress is too cute!  I even found some fabric from the same fabric line at Fabric.com.  This is my new favourite fabric store because there is so much selection.  And if you are ordering to the States you only have to spend $30 to get free shipping!    The white little shoes she was wearing were mine when I was a lil girl and thought they would be perfect for her outfit.  The basket I picked up from the dollar store.  And the cape I made from left over fabric from my Mom’s fabric stash!  Anyways, here are some cute pictures of my lil red riding hood 🙂

Lainey’s 1st Birthday!

I just realized I haven’t made a post in almost a month.  I wanted to make a post with pictures from Lainey’s 1st Birthday but never got around to it.  I have all her pictures now all together and thought I should share with you her 1st birthday fun!

The theme was the colors Pink, Yellow and Blue.  I guess it’s not really a theme but a color scheme 🙂

I have to admit her birthday was mostly inspired by Pinterest.  I called it a Pinspiring Birthday Party!

I made this tutu from a tutorial I found on Pinterest.  The moment I saw it I thought it would be perfect for her party outfit.  When I first made the tutu for her and had her try it on, she screamed!  She absolutely hated it.  I tried again a month later and she still hated.  But for the big day she had sooo much fun in it.  I have to say though heads up for anyone making one, do NOT use sparkly tulle.  It falls off and gets everywhere!

Here is her cake! Homemade by mama!  I got the idea from another little girls birthday that I saw on Pinterest (surprise eh?)

7 Different Uses for Coconut Oil

Okay so the one thing I’m totally obsessed with right now is Coconut Oil!  I love it!

I had no idea how many ways you could use Coconut Oil.  I first started using it on Lainey on her eczema, as I heard that it can help with keeping the skin from drying out and getting eczema breakouts.  I started using it and it helped for a bit.  However, then she started scratching and it got so bad that we had to resort to a prescription.  I’ll have to try it again after I have her eczema under control again.

Then I started using it for myself as I have very dry skin too.   Here are some other ways I’ve discovered to use Coconut Oil:

7uses

Eye Makeup Remover

This works awesome for removing eye makeup!  Not only is it great for your eyelashes but it moisturizes your face at the same time.  What I do is splash some warm water on my face then take some Coconut Oil on my finger tips and rub eyelids gently.  Then I take a cotton eye pad and wet it a bit and then remove the eye makeup.

Shaving

I don’t know why but I hate using shaving cream.  For the longest time I would use conditioner to shave my legs.  Then when I discovered some useful ways to use Coconut Oil, I thought why not use it to shave.  After I first tried it and got out of the shower I couldn’t stop touching my silky smooth legs.

Natural Deodorant

Did you know that you can use Coconut Oil as a natural deodorant?  Well I first discovered a natural DIY deodorant using Coconut Oil, baking powder and essential oil.  It smells great but for me personally I don’t think there was enough coconut oil for it to work like I wanted it to.  So then I just used Coconut Oil and loved how it worked.  I’ve heard so many bad things about antiperspirants that when I was pregnant and breastfeeding I really didn’t want to use it so I wanted discover an alternative.  Plus coconut smells great.

Lip balm for chapped lips

This is great for moisturizing lips.  It works great like Vaseline.

Moisturizer

You can use Coconut Oil as an all over moisturizer.  I bet it would be great for moisturizing stretch marks.

Hair

You can use on dry split ends or for frizzes and researched that it can be good to use as a hair mask.  Though for me I found it just left my hair greasy when it was done.

and of course Baking!
